Singing Steel at the Bleu Pluriel

Here is a video of our recent concert on Sunday the 5th of February. This time both the boys are playing hang pans and I only have to sing... The xylophone and kool drums will be up later!

Itineraires Bis photos of Singing Steel

Here are some photos from yesterday's performances of Singing Steel. The show started with a hand pan duo from the boys. Luckily there was a fire extinguisher to hand in case they burst into flames. Their hands are nicely blurred to show their virtuosity.

It was so good I just couldn't help joining in...

And then the new kool drum prototypes made their début...

Along with my giant custom built xylophone, made out of bits of caravan suspension, amongst other things.

Since this was its first unveiling in public, a lot of concentration was required. You can tell this by the way our eyes are glued to our instruments...

Singing Steel play at Itineraires Bis open day

Singing Steel is a group of musicians performing with kool drums, hang, halo and spb hand pans...and a little bit of singing from me (Gillian O'Donovan)!
We will be playing in St Brieuc (22) France, 2 place St Michel, between 3pm and 5pm on Saturday 21 January. On Sunday, we will be recording and filming the new kool drum nova prototypes in the morning, and then some new songs in the afternoon to put up on our bandcamp site.

kool drum nova coming soon

We are working on a new range of kool drums, the "nova".
The drums will have nine notes in a variety of scales. It has been great fun exploring all the new note combinations, and my living room table has been groaning under the weight of all the experimental prototypes.
There has also been a lot of experimenting with paint and metallic finishes. The dog's tail has golden streaks in it as she tried to get close to the fire and found it surrounded by metal mushrooms. Here is one of the first:
